When we read the prophecy of Jonah, two main incidents occupy our thoughts. Firstly his disobedience, doubtless because of his known hostility of the Syrians against his nation. Secondly, we marvel at the result of his preaching in Nineveh.
In this section there is another miracle. When the Lord allowed a storm to threaten the safety of the seamen, his testimony to these idolatrous mariners caused them to turn in worship to the God of heaven.
Considered to be “a backslider”, his testimony achieved amazing results. We are presently exposed to a storm that is causing world wide consternation. As we used to sing with the children “you in your small corner, and I in mine,”
Jesus bids us shine with a clear pure light;
Like a little candle, burning in the night,
In this world of darkness
So we must shine -
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine, first of all for Him;
Well He sees and knows it
If our light grows dim.
He looks down from heaven,
To see us shine -

And I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine, then for all around;
Many kinds of darkness
In this world abound -
Sin and want and sorrow;
So we must shine -
You in your small corner, and I in mine.
